Replace and upgrade your boiler with a heat pump.

Upgrading your heating system to a heat pump is a smart move for your home, and the environment will thank you too. Discover the benefits of replacing your boiler with a heat pump, and how it can provide you with a cosy home and maybe even lower bills.

Why choose an air source heat pump?

Air source heat pumps are the future of home heating, and a great alternative to traditional heating systems. They use renewable energy from the air to heat your home, offering a sustainable and efficient solution. Discover more reasons why you should consider upgrading to a heat pump.

Heat pump vs boiler.

An air source heat pump and a traditional gas boiler operate completely differently. Even the very newest and most efficient ‘A-rated’ gas boilers can only turn about 90% of the energy they create from burning gas, into heat for your home. ASHPs on the other hand extract heat from the air outside using electricity, and get 3 to 4 times as much heat from your home for every unit of electricity used, making them 300 to 400% efficient. This makes heat pumps much more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Is an air source heat pump cheaper to run than a gas boiler?

An air source heat pump could be £260 a year cheaper to run than a gas boiler, especially if you’ve got an old G-rated boiler.¹ Heat pumps have higher efficiency rates, meaning they use less energy to produce the same amount of heat, which could lead to lower fuel bills over time.

1 Potential annual savings are based on the installing of a standard air source heat pump in an average sized three-bedroom detached home. Savings are dependent on your property size, your household electricity usage, the current of any existing electric storage heater used and its age. Savings are dependent on the current oil/LPG system used, and their age. Figures are sources from the Energy Saving Trust website and are based on fuel prices as of January 2024.

Why you should upgrade from your current heating system.

Switching to a heat pump boiler has many advantages. With an unpredictable energy market and an increasing awareness of climate change, upgrading to a more efficient system could not only potentially save you money, it will reduce your carbon footprint too. Win-win!

Environmental benefits.

Heat pumps use electricity to function, and produce significantly fewer green house gas emissions as they are 3 to 4 times more efficient than gas, oil or LPG boilers and direct electric heating. By replacing your boiler with a heat pump, you contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.

Modernise heating and hot water with a heat pump.

Providing both heating and hot water, heat pumps are compatible with most existing radiators and underfloor heating systems. For ASHPs to work efficiently they generally operate at lower temperatures than gas boilers, but - they still keep your home nice and warm. This means radiators need to be the right size for the room they need to heat. When we survey your home we’ll connect to existing radiators and underfloor heating where we can, but any price we offer will include any new radiators you might need.

Heat pump flow temperature.

Heat pumps operate at lower flow temperatures than traditional boilers. This makes them more efficient and perfect for use with underfloor heating systems, which require consistent, lower temperatures.

Heat pump heating efficiency.

With an efficiency rate of between 300-400%, heat pumps are far more efficient than traditional gas boilers. This means for every unit of electricity used, a heat pump can generate up to three or four units of heat. Read more about air source heat pump efficiency.

Cost of heat pumps and installation.

The initial cost of installing a heat pump can often be higher than a traditional boiler, but the potential savings on fuel bills could make it a worthwhile investment. Additionally, various grants and schemes can help offset the installation costs.

Take advantage of the heat pump grant, the ‘Boiler Upgrade Scheme.’

The UK government currently offers financial incentives, such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme³, to encourage homeowners to switch to renewable heating systems. These grants can significantly reduce the upfront costs of installing a heat pump.

3 The Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme is valid for heat pumps that are commissioned from April 1st 2022. To be eligible for the grant, a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) from the last 10 years. Unfortunately new build homes are ineligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Owner and property eligibility apply. To see the full eligibility criteria and exclusions, visit the Government Boiler Upgrade Scheme website

Should I replace my boiler with a heat pump?

Yes, if you’re looking for a more efficient, environmentally friendly heating solution, a heat pump is an excellent choice. Especially if you currently use oil, electric heaters or an old boiler.

How much does it cost to replace a boiler with a heat pump?

The cost varies depending on the size of your home and the type of heat pump, but grants and incentives can help reduce the cost. A typical installation costs range between £3,000 - £10,000 for a three-bedroom house, including the heat pump, hot water tank, and radiators. Read more about how much air source heat pumps cost.

Do you need a water tank with an air source heat pump?

In most cases, yes. A water tank is used to store hot water generated by the heat pump.

Is an air source heat pump easy to use?

Yes, heat pumps are user-friendly and can be controlled via thermostats and smart home systems.

Will the new system heat my hot water too?

Of course! Air source heat pumps can provide both heating and hot water for your home.

Do I need to service my air source heat pump?

Yearly servicing is recommended to maintain efficiency and prolong the lifespan of your heat pump, and maintain the terms of any guarantee you might have.

Will a heat pump keep my house warm?

Yes, heat pumps are designed to keep your home comfortably warm, even in colder weather. And when you add a smart thermostat, you can control the desired temperature of your home no matter where you are.

What are the disadvantages of a heat pump?

The initial installation cost can be higher than a boiler perhaps, and they may require more space. Luckily there’s currently heat pumps grants and schemes that can take up to £7,500 off the installation cost.

Will a heat pump work in a poorly insulated house?

While heat pumps can work in less insulated homes, improving insulation will enhance their efficiency and performance. Plus, they’ll use less energy to operate as your home will be warmer with insulation, so they won’t need to work as hard to heat up your home.

How much space do you need for a heat pump?

Heat pumps require space for the outdoor unit and the indoor components, so having a suitable location is important. Don’t worry, our friendly and professional experts will be able to assess the best place to install your heat pump.

Will a heat pump save me money?

Due to their high efficiency and lower running costs, heat pumps could lead to significant savings on your bills over time. Discover more on heating costs of air source heat pumps.
