Sustainability matters to everybody, whether you’re relaxing at home or heading out for some well-earned leisure time. So we’re incredibly proud to announce that E.ON Next has grabbed front row seats to a brighter future by entering into a sustainability partnership with the spectacular Coventry Building Society Arena.
Home ground of the resurgent Coventry City FC, and venue for everything from international exhibitions to major music concerts, the arena is quite literally central to the future of events in the UK, with 75% of the UK population living within a two-hour drive.
That brings major events closer to more people than ever, and reduces the carbon footprint of all the concert-goers, football fans and exhibition visitors who might previously have had to drive all the way down the M1 to the Capital to enjoy Britain’s biggest events.
We’re working together to make sustainable practices a little more eventful.
Coventry Building Society Arena is one of the UK’s most flexible venues, with space for conferences, events, meetings, exhibitions and live sporting events. It offers 20,000m2 of event space, as well as room for more than 32,000 football fans and in excess of 42,500 music fans.
In fact, it attracts well over a million visitors every year, which is why it’s important for the owners to shine a spotlight on sustainability as well as a galaxy of stars that has already included everyone from Harry Styles to The Rolling Stones and from Bruce Springsteen to the Spice Girls.
After all, every music legend’s light show draws quite a bit of energy from the grid, and those matchday pies won’t heat themselves. So we’re going to be working together to make sustainability a key player at every football match, and put carbon reduction on the agenda for every meeting and exhibition that’s staged at the arena.
The next stage in a venue-wide sustainability plan for Coventry Building Society Arena.
Coventry Building Society Arena’s partnership with E.ON Next is a high profile initiative for decarbonisation in Coventry.
We’re dedicated to making new energy work for everyone. At this arena, that means we’re looking into new, low carbon solutions such as photovoltaic panels (PVs) on its roof and electric vehicle (EV) charging points for visitors.
We’re also looking at upgrading the arena’s existing heating and cooling systems, with a view to removing the need for gas - which unfortunately isn’t a renewable resource - and replacing it with sustainably generated electricity, which of course is a renewable resource.
Into the arena - and out across the city of Coventry.
Our three-year sustainability partnership with Coventry Building Society ties in very neatly with the 15-year Strategic Energy Partnership that E.ON signed with Coventry City Council last year.
This commits both organisations to work together on giving businesses access to cleaner, greener energy and transforming the city’s approach to carbon reduction. Enhancing the arena’s energy efficiency and reducing its carbon footprint are a big part of this process, but it’s also one of many vital components in Coventry City Council’s 15-year energy vision to inspire further action and initiatives from people and businesses right across this historic cathedral city.
Importantly, the council is leading the community by example, with plans afoot to upgrade all of the city’s 29,000 streetlights with LEDs, in a bid to save £2.5m a year in energy costs. This is also forecast to reduce carbon emissions by 1,200 tonnes a year, which in carbon footprint terms is the same as taking more than 260 cars off Coventry’s highways and byways.
E.ON Next is proud to make a ‘stand’ for decarbonisation in Coventry.
E.ON Next takes our commitment to the environment and the wider community very seriously. We’re the energy company that aspires to be a sustainability company. So we take genuine pride in forming partnerships like those with Coventry City Council and Coventry Building Society Arena.
How do we demonstrate that pride? Well, it obviously starts with unashamedly gushy blog posts like this one. But we’re so proud of these partnerships that you’re soon going to be seeing the E.ON Next logo displayed all over the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Our well-known brand is going to be popping up at the pitchside for every Sky Blues game, entering stage left at every sold-out show and making a stand at every eye-catching exhibition.
In any event, if you’re visiting the arena in the near future, we’ll see you there!
