Or if you prefer, you can drop us an email at hi@eonnext.com and we can work out the switch to your new property. We’ll do the heavy lifting, so that you can do the heavy boxes.

Setting up electricity and gas in a new home (UK).
When you move into a new home, you’ll want your electricity and gas set up on the day you move in (not like your broadband or things you may be tempted to ‘get round to later’). Here we give you some pointers on how you can get set up quickly, easily, and make sure you’re all ready to go!
Check the EPC rating.
Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) assess home energy efficiency and suggest improvements. The more energy efficient your new home is, the less energy you will use – saving you money on your energy bills from the day you move in. Check the EPC rating of a UK property on the government website.
Compare electricity and gas suppliers.
Before you get your new house keys, find out who your new energy supplier is. Compare them to available alternatives and choose the best deal for your lifestyle and budget. Find out if you can move to one of our great tariffs by checking the E.ON Next tariffs.
Renewable energy solutions.
Renewable energy isn’t just good for the planet, but good for your bank account too. Check if your new home has any extra renewable credentials like solar panels or heat pumps, as they could save you money on your energy bills.
Home EV charger.
If you've already made the change to an electric vehicle (EV) a home EV charger is a must-have accessory for your driveway. From 2030 the government is banning the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles, so an EV charger is a great way to future-proof your home. Find out more about making the switch to an electric vehicle.
Closing meter readings.
Break ups are always hard, but it is important to let your last energy supplier know when you're moving out of your old home - and send them your closing electricity and gas meter readings so that you won’t be charged for energy used after you leave. Learn how to read your meter. Once your previous energy company receives these readings they'll send you out a final bill.
Changing electricity and gas supplier when moving house.
When you're moving home, there's lots to think about and lots to do - thankfully changing your electricity and gas supplier is fairly straightforward if you follow this simple 4 step checklist.
Step 1 - Find out who your new current energy supplier is.
First things first - let's quickly work out who is the new supplier of your electricity and who is the supplier of your gas.
Who is my electricity supplier?
How to find my electricity supplier is a frequently asked question. The best way to find out is use the Energy Network Association search tool to find your energy network operator. You can then get in touch to learn your electricity supplier and your MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) - these are also known as meter numbers and are used to identify electricity meters.
Who is my gas supplier?
For this, you need to talk to the Meter Point Administration Service, either by using their online Find My Supplier search tool or calling them on 0870 608 1524. They can also let you know your MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number, which is the number used to identify your gas meter).
Continuing with E.ON Next?
If you’re moving into a house that's already supplied by E.ON Next, hurrah, the process is even easier. Simply follow our handy instructions guide.
Step 2 - How much energy do you use?
To get a good idea of this, check one of your recent energy bills. It should show your annual electricity and gas usage. By knowing this, you can make sure your new quote is as accurate as possible.
Don't worry if you don't know your energy use though, you can use the Ofgem averages which will give you a rough idea of how much energy you'll use based on the size of your new home.
Step 3 - Getting a quote.
You can get a quote online with us or through the many energy comparison sites out there to see how much you'll pay if you switch tariffs. It's important to check what type of meter you have, for example economy E7, so that you'll get the correct prices.
There's a few bits to check when looking at the various energy tariffs:
Is the energy you’re getting renewable?
Are there exit fees? Will you be charged if you try to leave your contract early?
Do they offer you a free smart meter?
Can you pay by Direct Debit to help spread the cost of your higher winter bills over the year?
Is your tariff fixed or variable?
Once you've picked your tariff you'll need to enter your personal and bank details.
Step 4 - Do I need to do anything during the switch?
You don't need to get in contact with your old supplier, but you'll need to give your opening meter readings to your new supplier. Luckily, they'll let you know when you need to do this to make things easier.
Your old supplier will then be sent these meter readings so they can close down your account and refund any credit that is due. It can take up to 5 working days for your electricity and/or gas supply to move over to your new supplier.
You’ll also have a 14 day cooling-off period, in case you change your mind and want to stay with your current supplier. Your options will differ depending on whether you join your new supplier in your cooling-off period or not.
Switching from a prepayment meter to a credit meter.
If your new home has a prepayment (pay-as-you-go) meter and you'd prefer to switch this to a credit meter, we can help. As long as you pass a simple credit check, we can book an appointment with you within a reasonable time frame to swap your prepayment meter for a shiny new smart meter.
Switching to a credit meter means you'll pay for your energy monthly by Direct Debit or we'll send you a bill (which you’ll need to pay in 7 days). If your circumstances mean that a prepayment meter is not safe or practical it's really important that you talk to us so we can help. Want to switch to a credit meter? Contact us and we'll start the process.
Energy saving tips for your new home.
Once you're in your new home, it's important to make the most of your energy going forward. These handy tips can help you save energy, save money, and do your bit to help reduce your carbon footprint.
Opening meter readings.
When you first move into your new home, the last thing on your mind is your energy. But before you start unpacking, find your meter and send a meter reading to your new energy supplier. That way you can’t be charged for energy used by the previous occupants.
If E.ON Next is your new supplier, find out more about moving into your new home – and welcome!
Energy efficient appliances.
Fridges, freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, and tumble dryers are the biggest household energy users1, so they rack up quite a bill over their lifetime. Shop around for a good appliance rating (A is now the most efficient) and save money on your energy bill each year. Get more tips on saving energy with your new appliances.
Smart meters.
Smart meters keep you and your energy company informed on your energy use – letting you take control of your energy bills, and letting us reduce carbon emissions2. Learn more about the benefits of smart meters and book a free appointment online.
Insulation.
Insulation is like a blanket for your home, so you can spend less energy on your heating. There are several types of insulation: loft, cavity wall, solid wall, floor, and tank insulation. They won’t all be a fit for your new place. But your surveyor can advise on the best insulation options for you.
By saving some time and money on your energy you can focus on settling into your new home. If you're an existing E.ON Next customer, or are interested in moving to us, we can help make switching simple when moving home.
Renewable energy options with E.ON Next.
Moving into a new home is such an exciting time, one very focused on the future and starting afresh. With this in mind, it's also a great time to consider switching to one of our renewable tariffs like Next Gust, giving you 100% renewable electricity backed by wind energy generated by UK assets.3
Or, if you drive an electric vehicle (EV) consider getting a quote for our Next Drive tariff, it too gives you 100% renewable electricity4 and offers cheap overnight charging prices.
