What happens to my energy supply if I'm moving home or have just moved in?

First the practical stuff. It’s ok, you won’t be cut off. The energy company that currently supplies your new home will keep supplying you and you’ll pay them for the electricity and gas you use - until you let them know what you want to do.

Next, we can help set up your electricity and gas account at your new home in no time at all. That way you get to keep that feel-good energy feeling.

If you've moved into a property where we already supply the electricity and/or gas, then get in touch online or with your dedicated customer service team so we can get you up and running.

When should I let you know I'm moving home?

You should let us know on the day of your move or as soon as you can after it.

When you've moved into your new home we recommend you track down the electricity and gas meters so you know where they are. Plus you'll be able to get your opening meter readings so your energy bills are accurate.

How to read your meter.

How do I find out who supplies energy to my new address?

Find my electricity supplier.

To find out who your electricity supplier is, you can call your local electricity distribution company. You can find out your local electricity distribution company online.

Find my gas supplier.

To find your gas supplier, you need to talk to the Meter Point Administration Service, either by using their online Find My Supplier search tool or calling them on 0870 608 1524.

If you’re having difficulty the simplest solution is to ask. Try contacting your estate agent. If they don’t know the answer they’ll likely be able to contact someone who does.

If you’re renting you can also try contacting your new landlord or property manager directly.

Setting up gas and electricity in your new home.

Do I need to set up gas and electricity before I move in?

You don’t need to get in touch until you’ve moved in, but try not to hang around too long afterwards. The sooner you can submit your opening meter readings, the more accurate they will be. Ensuring you don’t pay for any energy you didn’t use.

How do I set up my electricity bill when I move?

Once you have agreed a tariff with the energy supplier for your new home you should receive your electricity bills automatically.

If your new property has a prepayment meter then you won’t receive a bill, instead you’ll pay for your energy as you use it.
